David Lee Might Sign With Blazers |
|
Saturday, 04 July 2009 |
|
New York Post - Hedo Turkoglu has backed out of negotiations with the Blazers, which could pave the way for David Lee to Portland."We had been talking, but we'll talk now," Lee's agent Mark Bartlestein told The Post last night.
Turkoglu reportedly agreed to terms with Portland early yesterday
on a $10 million per year deal, then ended negotiations and was said to
be Toronto-bound, according to ESPN.com.
The Blazers have long lusted after Lee, who also seeks $10 million
per season, exactly the amount the Blazers are under the cap.
Bartlestein said because Lee is restricted, the Blazers were fearful of
waiting 10 days to see if the Knicks would match and instead jumped at
the surer thing in Turkoglu.
With Memphis and Detroit making other moves and Portland involved
with Turkoglu, the Knicks' chances of re-signing Lee for $7 to $8
million had seemed to increase.
Bartlestein claims he's talked to nearly 15 over-the-cap teams who
have proposed sign-and-trade deals with the Knicks for Lee. But because
he is a base-year compensation player, it is difficult to make the math
work under the CBA.

Jordan Hill and Toney Douglas Talk |
|
|
Monday, 29 June 2009 |
The Knicks finally got the player they wanted in the draft. Introducing Jordan Hill. As much as I would like to say I like the Knicks selection with the 8th pick I really can’t. Don’t get me wrong, Jordan Hill is a good role player. Hill is a powerforward that can rebound and play some defense. However he is not what the Knicks need right now. The Knicks needed to draft either a point guard or shooting guard. The right pick for the Knicks should have been Brandon Jennings, Demar DeRozan, or Terrence Williams. It looked like on draft night Donnie Walsh played the conservative role. At what point will the Knicks look for a star in the draft instead of getting a players that will be good role players?
With so much uncertainty with the Knicks in the backcourt it’s mind boggling that Walsh would not draft a point guard or a shooting guard. We already know that Chris Duhon can not hack it as the Knicks starting point guard for the whole season. Last season Duhon started the season off strong and ran out of gas. Then you have Nate Robinson who the Knicks don’t seem to want to resign. So what is the Knicks’ future in the backcourt? In today’s NBA it is rare that a team is successful without a floor general. It really looks like Donnie Walsh missed the boat on this one for not taking a risk on a player that could have really made an impact for the Knicks in this up incoming season.
Jordan Hill is a player that has not been playing organized ball too long so there is much that he has to work on. I do not doubt he can be a good role player in this league. Right now he is a hardworking player that looks to get better which is a plus. The areas I feel is needs to work on his offensive game. He has to develop more postup moves to be effective. Another area that I can feel can make him a good player is being able to create off the dribble. Right now the Knicks do not have many players that can create their own shot. If Hill can work on being able to create his own shot that make his life easier and making the life of the point guard that much easier. All that being said, it is going to be interesting to find out what other moves will be made this offseason because it is two years in a role that the Knicks passed up on getting a player that could help the Knicks in the backcourt.
Overall Jordan Hill is a good player but I just feel the Knicks should have drafted a point guard or shooting guard with the 8th pick. The good news is that Hill can rebound and run on the break if the Knicks want to push the ball. Drafting Hill could also mean that the Knicks have no interest in resigning David Lee who also plays the powerforward spot. There are a few things that we know that Hill has that Lee did not bring consistently every night and that is shooting from the outside. Hill on the other hand can knock down the midrange shot like former Knicks players Kurt Thomas and Charles Oakley. It will be a tall order for Hill to replace Lee’s numbers last season but if Hill can give the Knicks 9 to 10 rebound plus 13 to 14 points in his rookie year I think fans will be satisfied with this pick.
Now that Hill is here I wish the guy the best of luck playing in the Big Apple and I can’t wait to see him in summer league.

Walsh Might be Trading Lee? |
|
Sunday, 07 June 2009 |
Knicks fans you are not going to like this. According to Boston
Globe the rumor is that Donnie Walsh the Knicks President is trying to
trade fan favorite David Lee. Here is what was reported by the Boston
Globe:
"An NBA executive said Knicks president Donnie
Walsh is trying to work out a sign-and-trade for forward-center David
Lee in a cost-cutting move." -The Boston Globe
As
you already know Lee is one of my favorite Knicks players on the team.
However, I have no problem trading him if it means that the Knicks will
be getting valuable back or future draft picks. Right now the Knicks
are thinking about 2010 and beyond. If the Knicks resign Lee they would
only be able to sign one other max player in 2010. Especially if David
Lee is looking for a contract around 9 million a year. I would rather
take a risk with trading Lee and getting a good player back and have
cap room to sign a player like a Chris Bosh or Amare Stoudemire at
the forward spot.
Besides the Knicks having cap room to sign a
star forward they would also have a chance to sign a star shooting
guard like Joe Johnson. With Lee on the team there is no garantee that
the Knicks will ever start winning. I would perfer to sign two players
that can help the Knicks go to the next level.
That being said I
still think there is a strong possibility that Lee will remain a Knicks
because of the effort he showed last season. Remember Lee was second
in the league in double-doubles and had considerations for the all-star
team. The difference of Lee remaining a Knicks or getting traded might
be Lee asking for 7 milion a year compared to Lee asking for 10 million
a year from the Knicks.

Amare Stoudemire Wants To Be A Knick |
|
Sunday, 07 June 2009 |
As the quest for 2010 continues the latest news is that Amare Stoudemire wants to be a Knick. Marc Berman of the New York Post in his blog has reported that Amare Stougemire would love to come to New York and play with his former coach Mike D'Antoni. Here is what was stated in the New York Post:
"Back in New York, ESPN Radio's Brandon Tierney had Amare Stoudemire on this morning and reiterated remarks about his desire to play for Mike D'Antoni in 2010 while boasting about being better than Chris Bosh. Stoudemire told The Post similar stuff during All-Star Weekend.
When Tierney asked Stoudemire if he's better than Bosh, the Suns forward said, "Oooh man, are you kidding me? Ask Chris Bosh that question."
So that's a yes?
"No doubt about it, I'm better than Chris Bosh"
"How serious will you consider the Knicks in 2010"?
"I will be totally serious about that, I spent a lot of my childhood there, I have a connection with the state, and I also love the entire coaching staff"
" I think Coach D'Antoni's doing a phenomenal job with the Knicks, NY's a great city, I follow them closely."-New York Post
If Chris Bosh is not available Amare should be the Knicks next option. He is probably the best scoring big man in the league. However, two things that concern me when I think about the Knicks signing Amare and those are his injuries and his poor rebounding for a big man. I think with Amare's athletic ability he should at least be pulling down 10 plus rebounds a game. He also has to step up in the man-to-man defense area.
Overall getting Amare would be huge. Right now there is no one in the league that can contain him. Plus he already knows how to be effective in Mike D's system. Whether if the Knicks go to the halfcourt offense or the conventional run and gun offense Amare is a beast scoring either shooting the midrange shot or driving off the dribble. Amare is one of the few players left in the league that can drop 40 plus points on any given night with ease. We can talk about Lebron, Kobe, Wade all you want but Amare puts in work on the offensive end. Name any big man in the league and I will tell you that Amare has gone off on them and that includes Tim Duncan. Here are the positive and negative effects of having Amare on the Knicks:
Positives:
1. He can take over a game and be a go to guy that the Knicks are lacking.
2. His midrange shot is as good as any big man in the game and probably most guards.
3. He can create his own shot. This is very important for a team that lacks players that can create for themselves.
4. He can pass out of the double team with and is one of the best passing big men.
5. Amare takes high percentage shots and knows when to shoot or pass.
6. He can block shots. For years the Knicks have lack a player that can block shots. Amare can be that guy the Knicks have been looking for.
7. He knows how to be effective in the halfcourt with the post up game or running with the pick and roll.
8. He can run with the best of them on the fast break.
9. He has a good feel for the game of basketball and decision making.
10. Most importantly he already knows Coach Mike D'Antoni and how to be successful in his system.
11. The Knicks would have a chance to have a top NBA player on their team.
12. If healthy he can be one of the top scoring leaders in the league.
Negatives:
1. He is not a good rebounder for a guy with his size and athletic ability.
2. He has a tendency to pick up easy fouls.
3. He may ask for a huge contract that may hurt the Knicks from getting future players if things do not work out.
4. He gets injured too much. Last season he only played 53 games and has had major surgeries before. If he gets injured again he might turn out to be damaged goods. We do not need to see another Antonio McDyess.
Overall Amare on the offensive end is better than Bosh because he can not be stopped. The problem is Amare really only plays one end of the court compared to Bosh playing both ends of the court. If the Knicks sign Amare this could be either a slam dunk move or airball depending on Amare's health. I would not mind having either player on this team because it is clear that we need a low post presence and shotblocker on this team.

Walsh Visits Eddy Curry In Chicago |
|
Friday, 29 May 2009 |
|
Before the season ended we heard that Eddy Curry planned on working
hard this summer to get into shape. Last season Curry came into camp
weighing more than he did during the regular season. However, this
offseason Eddy Curry is suppose to be a new and improved player. Eddy
is scheduled to be getting into NBA shape before the season starts. So
far according to Eddy Curry Knicks President Donnie Walsh paid Eddy
Curry a visit to find out how things were going. Here is what was
reported by the New York Post:
While
in Chicago yesterday, Walsh visited another Curry -- Eddy. According to
Eddy Curry's twitter blog, Walsh watched one of his workouts and was
impressed. The Knicks are hoping Curry drops 30 pounds this summer.
Walsh did not return phone messages.-New York Post
Play
time is over and it's good to know that Donnie Walsh went to check up
on Eddy. This is going to be a make or break offseason and season for
Eddy Curry. Curry has to lose weight as well as work on his stamina and
skill. With the uptempo system that Mike D'Antioni wants to run it is
imperative that Eddy get in shape or he will never get off the Knicks'
bench. It is not impossible for Eddy to turn things around but he has
to have the willpower to overcome his huge weight problem obstacle.
Curry has to become the offensive weapon he was 3 years ago.
If
Curry wants to get a new contract or even remain in the NBA he must put
the time in for no one else but himself. His contract runs out in 2011
and it does not look like he is in the Knicks plans for the future.
However, if Eddy has a good season there might be a chance to trade him
for a contract that expires in 2010 next summer. By Eddy having a good
season this could help him get a new contract from some other NBA teams
when his contract is up in 2011. We will see if Curry was really
working out this offseason or was this just a smoke screen. At the end
of the day I hope Eddy Curry has a good season which can help the
Knicks win games and make it to the playoffs. Especially since the
Knicks will not have a draft pick in 2010 the Knicks might as well try
to win as many games as they can.

The D'Antoni System Under A Microscope |
|
Sunday, 24 May 2009 |
|
Mike D’Antoni’s system is a game plan that I feel any player can adapt
to. There are too many times when I hear fans suggesting that a player
will not be good for the Knicks because they will not fit into Mike
D’Antoni’s system. For some reason fans have the idea that only players
that have a top notch shooting game can flourish in Coach D’Antoni’s
offensive game plan. However that is not the case.
Last season
you saw players that were not the best shooters in the world be
productive in the “7 seconds or less offense.” If Jared Jeffries can
look like a solid player on the offensive end then any player that is
not overly out shape can play in the run and gun format. The key to
success is motion of the ball. Once a player can move around and not
stay in one place his scoring numbers will be magnified. Cutting to the
basket and moving the ball around to the open man is what makes Mike
D’Antoni’s system successful. It is not just throwing the ball out to
the first guy who has a jumpshot.
Look at last season.
Besides Jeffries, David Lee is other player that played solid under
coach D’Antoni and it’s not because David Lee is next coming of Reggie
Miller. David Lee is a player that knows how to move around without the
ball being in his hands all the time. Not only that, Lee never stayed
in one place. He kept on moving until he freed himself up for the easy
layup or dunk.
As much as people would like to believe the
Knicks played their best when the played an uptempo game that was not
case. The Knicks were more effective in the halfcourt set with the
pick-and-roll.
So the next time you say to yourself a certain
player can not play well under Coach D'Antoni think about the players
that he has coached. Not the superstars, but the role players that were
able to adjust. When the Knicks look for talent in the draft or through
free agency I feel any player that is talented and has a head on his
shoulders should be a good fit.

Rumor:Knicks Promise Stephen Curry they will Draft Him |
|
Sunday, 10 May 2009 |
NBADraft.Net"A rumor that has been gaining steam is that the Knicks will select
Stephen Curry with their 8th pick. We've received word that there could
be truth to this from inside sources claiming that Curry chose to put
his name into the draft this year based on the Knicks assuring Curry
that they would use their lottery selection to draft him.
Obviously
a lot could happen between now and the draft. The Knicks could always
win the lottery (they're not using a top 3 pick on him) or trade their
pick.
But it appears to be a legitimate possibility that if the Knicks have the 8th pick on draft night they will use it on Curry" Read More
