David Lee: The Hustle Man
Monday, 19 January 2009
By BigC

david_lee_250.jpg

David Lee continues to prove doubters wrong. Over and over again people keep on focusing what David Lee can’t do. Well how about what he can do. When Lee first came into the league he was known as just a rebounder and a guy that can only dunk. Each off season Lee has added something new to his repertoire. From improving his foul line shooting to this year’s major improvement with hitting the outside shot. Lee’s opponents have not gotten the message that you cannot leave the rebounding and hustling machine open.

Every night Lee has been getting a double-double. This season he averages 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists, plus shooting 58% from the field. Not only is Lee dunking the ball but he is taking his man off the dribble to drive left or right. Lee has also added a nice spin and post move. Lee is proof that a person does not need to jack up 1000 shots to get points. If a player stays active and keeps on moving around the rim, points will come.

Every team needs a hustle and team player like Lee. The question is do the Knicks want to keep Lee on the team? Lee is already a fan favorite and comes to play every night. Plus he has shown that he is willing to improve time and time again. The Knicks biggest mistake was to not resign Lee in early October. Now the Knicks will have to pay more money if they want Lee to still play at MSG. Walsh plans on getting two big stars to play in 2010. The problem is should Walsh sign Lee and risk the chance of signing a player like Chris Bosh or Amare Stoudemire? The Knicks could very well lose Lee if they do not resign him and lose Bosh, Dirk, or Amare in the process if those player sign with another team that might be more promising to their future. Right now I would not want to be in Donnie Walsh’s shoes with signing Lee. Until then let’s enjoy the hustle man David Lee, who brings excitement to the court, and not focus on what he can’t do.

Danilo Gallinari is Back
Monday, 19 January 2009
amd_gallinari-holds-uniform_thumb_thumb.jpgThe Rooster is back. Danilo Gallinari is back in the Knicks lineup. After months of being sidelined with an injury from playing one game in summer league The Rooster, as he is called, hit the Knicks court at Madison Square Garden. Before this appearance fans were starting to doubt the Knicks choice in the 2008 draft. On draft night Gallinari got more boos than Michael Jackson showing up at a children’s daycare. Fans wanted a new point guard to replace Marbury while Donnie Walsh and the gang were looking for a future star player at the 6th pick. After that fans got a little taste of what Danilo Gallinari could bring to the table from that summer league game. We were starting to see some hope in Danilo. We can only hope that Danilo does not bump into Tractor Trailer on the court. That being said now let’s fast forward to 2009 and Danilo.

In his Knicks debut Danilo showed that he has a nice stroke from the outside and can take his man off the dribble. The 20 year old player has the ability to play three positions. The three positions that he will be able to play are: the shooting guard, small forward, and power forward. Until Gallinari gets stronger I feel the position best suited for him is the small forward. He’s not strong enough to bang with the big boys but he does have the skill to slash and cut to the basket.

The thing that is most impressive is his passing ability. There were several plays that he could have shot the ball but he passed it up to a teammate. In the future don’t be surprised if Danilo has a bigger role playing point forward because he demonstrates good ball handling skills. The main question right now is, can Danilo stay healthy or will he go through a long growth spurt that will sideline him for a long period of time. If he can get stronger and stay healthy this might be a good player for the future.

Eddy Curry: Extortion or Sexual Harassment
Wednesday, 14 January 2009

 By Big C

amd_curry.jpgIt looks like things are getting worse in the world of Eddy Curry. Besides being sidelined for the first part of the season, it looks like Curry has been hit with sexual harassment charges from guess who? His  driver. Here are some allegations that Curry is being accused of that was mentioned in the New York Post..

The stunning court papers claim Curry, a married father of three, repeatedly approached chauffeur David Kuchinsky "in the nude," allegedly telling him, "Look at me, Dave, look" and "Come and touch it, Dave."
Curry also made Kuchinsky perform "humiliating tasks outside the scope of his employment, such as cleaning up and removing dirty towels [Curry had ejaculated into] so that his wife would not see them," the Manhattan federal court suit says Kuchinsky, who is straight and Jewish, also alleges racial discrimination, saying that Curry hurled slurs at him including "f---ing Jew," "cracker," "white slave," "white devil" and "grandmaster of the KKK."

...I could be wrong but this does not sound like Eddy Curry. From New York to Chicago no one has ever complained about Curry being a problem---whether they're players on his team or people from the media---let alone someone who harasses and degrades people. What people have called Curry in the past is a nice guy and friendly. Now we are supposed to believe that Curry is not just not insulting his employees but he is sexually harassing them PLUS he is racist?  Keep in mind that this charge is coming from an ex-con. Not to say there might not be some truth to his claims but for a person looking at this from the outside, Curry looks squeaky clean until I hear otherwise.

Think about it? If conditions were so bad working under Curry why didn’t the driver leave? This is sounds like something out of The Onion. Let me add that extortion happens a lot in the NBA. Players normally get extorted by someone either male or some cases female who accuse them of doing a sexual act and threaten players that they will go public. Curry is a player that probably did not care if this EX-CON went public with this trash. Curry probably feels he could have deal with this case rather than letting someone extort him for money. The truth is once you have been extorted who is to stop someone else from extorting you again.

I think this ex-con is taking advantage of a nice guy like Curry. Remember Curry was the same guy robbed at gunpoint in his home in Chicago. Players don't just get robbed for personal possessions they also get attacked with threats of public humiliation and claims of destroying their reputation---or pay up.  Now this driver thinks he can get one over on Curry. I'm sure Curry never felt that things would go this far but I guess you can't let someone try to blackmail you for money.

This situation with Curry happens more than people think. We all know the good side of being a star but there are many negative things that also come with the package. Whether it's people trying to rob athletes or women claiming that they have given birth to an athletes child. There have also been cases where players have found themselves passed out, only to wake up to a women claiming they had sexually intercourse with them just to get money. The best bet for an athlete is to higher real professionals whether for security or, in this case, a driver. It is better to pay big bucks now rather than pay in the future.

Blazers Interested In Lee
Sunday, 04 January 2009

Several sources with knowledge of the situation have told TKB that thePortland Trailblazers are getting serious about trading for David Lee.Blazers ownership thinks Lee is the perfect 6th man who will be 26 in April and can be part of their long term plans.

As we know Lee has leverage because he doesn’t have to sign with a team he is traded to, but playing in Portland with their young core would be very attractive. The Blazers’ organization feels Lee’s style of play would fit perfectly in Portland as he can play in both the half court system and get out and run as well as any forward in the NBA.

Plus he’d be a “flex” forward who could make them a big half court team or a smaller quicker team depending if he subbed in for LaMarcus Aldridge, Greg Oden or Nicolas Batum.

Stephon and Celtics Want Him In Boston
Friday, 02 January 2009

ESPN-Nearly one year since Stephon Marbury last played in a regular-season game, signals are getting stronger that the New York Knicks' outcast will eventually make his comeback with the Boston Celtics.

That still depends largely on Marbury's ability to negotiate his release from the Knicks after weeks of fruitless and oft-contentious buyout talks, but sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com this week that Boston is Marbury's preferred destination if he manages to become a free agent and that the Celtics are indeed hopeful of signing him.

It appears that the biggest obstacle to such a move is Marbury actually securing a buyout from the Knicks in a timely fashion as opposed to reservations Boston might have about Marbury's impact on team chemistry.

Although it has been widely assumed that Celtics forward Kevin Garnett would resist a reunion with the controversial point guard -- after Marbury broke up their Minnesota parternship in less than three seasons together by forcing a trade to New Jersey -- one Celtics source insists that Garnett has voiced no opposition to the idea of signing Marbury for the rest of the season to strengthen Boston's backcourt depth behind starters Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen.

Wilson Chander Dunks on Emeka Okafor
Thursday, 01 January 2009
After the Bobcats game it looks like Mike D'Antoni might want Chandler to be the go to guy at the shooting guard position. If Emeka Okafor did not know who Wilson Chandler is, I'm sure he knows now. Check out this dunk by Wilson Chandler.

New York Post-Stephon Marbury

Ispent this past offseason with that mindset. I trained the entire summer, running in the mountains and finding that burn to be in tip-top shape so I could dominate this year. I embraced the pain. It taught me a lot about my body.

I documented that experience in a workout DVD through AIM Sports Medicine. People who know me know I'm in the best shape of my life and I discovered a great formula that everyday people will be able to benefit from as far as things like stretching properly and recovery. Bottom line, I came to camp with the right attitude, in shape and ready to play. I didn't come to be a distraction.

I didn't want to be a distraction for the team first and me second. I honestly came to help the team win. Real talk. I was willing to put in the work necessary to earn my starting spot and humble enough to accept coming off of the bench.

It was unfortunate that the coach wanted to go in a different direction and didn't want me to be part of the team. I just wish it had been handled correctly from jump. I could understand the fact they didn't want Chris Duhon looking over his shoulder but if you don't want me, just pay me and let me go. I just want to play basketball.

I sat on the bench for a whole month and didn't say one word. It wasn't easy because I love to play but that's the nature of the biz. Then they made a trade and needed 8 guys and coach told me he had a certain number of minutes. I was cool. My jersey was never hung in my locker though so I never refused to play. Things were never handled properly.

Cuttino Mobley Retires: Somethings are more important
Saturday, 13 December 2008

Cuttino Mobley

It might have been a blessing in disguise that Cuttino Mobley was traded to the Knicks. If you have not heard the news Cuttino Mobley has retired because of having heart issues. A few weeks ago Mobley and teammate Tim Thomas were traded to the Knicks for Zach Randolph. The trade sounded good for the most part except for Cuttino Mobley who did not pass his physical, which stopped him from playing as a Knick.

Most people thought how could this be possible since Mobley has played all these years with no problem. The difference is the Knicks were not going to take a risk with a player with a bad heart playing on the court. With the Knicks doctors identifying Mobley’s heart condition and the seriousness of it this prevented Mobley playing with a condition that may cause death. Basketball is one thing, but losing your life just to play a sport is an entirely different story. If Mobley was not traded to the Knicks who knows how this chapter would have ended. Many of us remember what happened to Hank Gathers who lost his life on the court. Because the Knicks and Mobley are complying with the medical advice he was given Mobley is able to retire in good spirits and spend time with his wife and children.

Cuttino Mobley had a long career in the NBA for 11 years. Most players cannot even say that. And Mobley retires averaging 16 points and 2.7 assist per game and that is something to be proud of. Happy trails to Mobley, who I enjoyed watching on the Rockets for many years.

Time To Make Al Harrington The Go To Guy
Wednesday, 10 December 2008

al harrington.jpg

Time to make Al Harrrington the go to guy. With the Knicks recent trades, removing Jamal Crawford and Zach Randolph, it is clear that the Knicks need a number one option. I think that Al Harrington is that guy. Harrington has had some good games where he has scored 39, 28, 18, 27, 20, and a 16 point game. Harrington is becoming a force on the offensive end. He may not have the post moves of Zach Randolph or the one-on-one moves of a Jamal Crawford but Harrington does have an offensive game.

Harrington can play both forward position and has knack to score around the rim. If he is not dunking the ball or tipping the ball in he is going up hard with the best of them. Harrington can drive left and right off the dribble which makes it tough for opponents to guard him. Plus he has a midrange shot. He is also a player that you do not want to leave open from 3 point range or he will make you pay. The bottom line is Harrington needs more shot attempts. Almost every night Harrington has the advantage in the low box or taking his opponent on the outside. The main problem now with Harrington is he has to know when to take over when the team really needs him. Another problem with Al Harrington is conditioning. I feel once he gets in game shape and use to playing big minutes he will add another dimension in the Mike D’Antoni offense.
